Something Old, Something New ...

I have not been posting on this blog for a while now for two reasons. Firstly, I have been very busy with weddings and secondly, my husband and I have taken the decision to move to Ireland.
Although I have been creating flower designs for more than 20 years, my concentration on designs for weddings began only 5 years ago. Since then I have averaged a wedding/event per week. Not that I intend to stop with the new location - far from it - but it is a time to pause and consider how I would like Flowerscape to grow. I have new and vital inspiration in the Irish countryside; in the Wicklow Hills that I can see from the garden, and in the lanes and hedgerows; the profusion of thorn tree blossom across the landscape at the moment, and in the beautiful cadences in the Irish voices I hear when out walking.
Of course, I have an abiding passion still for the wildness and the special light, landscape and air of Argyll. That will live on in memory, refreshed I am sure by return visits from time to time, but it is always in the present moment that inspiration comes; and from those people and things that surround us and which we hold dear.
And, while in reflective mood, I have been looking over the many weddings with which I have had the privilege of being involved; as well as the wonderful couples, who have been a joy to know at that special and exciting time in their lives. One of the first to spring to mind was created for an American couple, marrying in Scotland and looking for an unrestrained profusion of blooms and greenery.
This wedding was a joy to complete and hopefully these photographs capture some of the flavour and colour of the occasion. The bride was very pleased with her flowers, and it is that above all that pleases me.
