Powerscourt Wedding Fair: 22 February 2015

Gill Stewart FLOWERSCAPE has been chosen to provide flower displays for the Ballroom at Powerscourt for their Wedding Fair on 22nd February 2015.

Powerscourt House (below) was voted in the Top 10 Houses in the World by Lonely Planet, and the beautiful gardens the No 3 Garden in the World by National Geographic. The house makes for an absolutely stunning wedding venue...

Powerscourt is currently owned by the Slazenger Family, so it comes as no surprise that the estate has a first-class golf course. There is also a garden centre in the grounds and an Avoca Trading area within the house.

In recent times, the house, garden and the Powerscourt Waterfall (about 5km south of the house) have been the setting for a number of well-known movies and television series.

Laurence Olivier filmed for his notable Henry V here, and Stanley Kubrick made Barry Lyndon at Powerscourt in 1973, the year before a disastrous fire destroyed a large part of the house.

Since 1996, the house has been undergoing renovation, and a great deal of work has been carried out over the years, making for an outstanding place to visit.

The gardens too are a wonder, and this view from the gallery overlooking the terrace, gives only a glimpse of the 47 acres. My primary interest for now, of course, is in the flowers for the Wedding Fair. A lot of measuring up was necessary; noting possible ideas for the ballroom...

Now to work. With only a week to go, there is a lot to be done - including ordering the flowers in the week after Valentine's Day when stocks will be low. However, I am sure my lovely flower supplier Tracey will be able to help.
